  • Lamar County School District COVID-19 Update - March 13, 2020

Our Superintendent, Board Members, and Principals have been very busy this week gathering information for the safety of our Students, Teachers, and Staff.  At the recommendation of the Alabama State Superintendent, Eric Mackey, and upon the guidance of the Alabama Department of Public Health, we have decided to implement the following:
    1. To cancel or limit any event where it would be expected to have 500 or more people gathered. This would include performances, plays, athletics, conferences, etc. Please note that amended activities may still be appropriate if you can limit attendance.
    2. To postpone or cancel any and all field trips, whether inside or outside of Alabama.
These actions will be effective immediately and until further notice.  We will continue to pass along information as it becomes available.  We have resources on our website about the COVID-19, along with tips on how to stay well.

  • Information on Wellness and COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Even though there has not been any reports of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) in our state or schools, we are diligently monitoring the situation.

As always, Lamar County Schools encourage families to ensure children who are sick remain home for at least 24 hours fever free (without medication) before returning to school.

Other helpful ways to stay well:

    1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
    2. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.  Then wash your hands.
    3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
    4. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
    5. Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.  You should remain home until you have been fever free for 24 hours, without medication.
    6. Wash your hands often with soap and warm water, for at least 20 seconds.
