Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Jared Vickery

I graduated high school in 1997 from Oakman High School in Oakman, Alabama. I earned my BS in psychology from the University of Alabama in 2000 and my MS in clinical/applied psychology from the University of South Alabama in 2003. After leaving Mobile, I began working for Northwest Alabama Mental Health Center as a psychotherapist. I spent roughly 2 1/2 years working in outpatient services in Fayette before transferring to the inpatient Behavioral Medicine Unit at Brookwood Baptist Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper, where I worked for around 12 years. During that time, I earned an MFA in writing popular fiction from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. I left the mental health field in 2017 to pursue certification in teaching. In 2018, I earned a BA in English from Athens State University. I've been teaching for 3 years.

I am married to Lauren Crawford-Vickery, who teaches at Jasper High School. We have two dogs and two cats. I have also published 5 novels and one collection of short stories. One of my novels finished in the top five of the Next Generation Independent Book Awards and the Kindle Book Awards. Another novel finished top five in the 2020 American Book Awards and the 2021 International Book Awards. My flash fiction story "The Most Precious Item" won 2nd place in the 2020 Alabama Writer's Cooperative Flash Fiction Contest, and I once saw a blimp.
